About Carla DeWitt CPA

Carla began her career over 40 years ago. After graduating with honors with a BS in Accounting from the University of Denver, Carla went to work in the Milwaukee office of Arthur Andersen & Co., one of the international Big Eight accounting firms. Recognizing her talent, Carla was quickly selected to work on the international tax team. Carla specialized in tax preparation and planning for multinational companies and their employees. She spent two tax seasons in the Toronto office preparing both US and Canadian tax returns for AA&Co’s clients’ US expatriates.

While in Milwaukee, Carla worked with Junior Achievement, joined a Toastmasters group, and took ballet lessons twice a week. She also volunteered to work on the office’s holiday party committees and organized highly successful events for both the tax department at 150 guests and the following year, the entire office with 600 guests.

Indianapolis

Carla moved home to Indianapolis for family reasons and eventually went to work for Katz, Sapper & Miller, a large local accounting firm where she was the only non-partner with signature authority on tax returns. While at Katz, Carla obtained her CFP designation and started the firm’s financial planning practice. During her tenure, she also helped start the firm’s 401(k) plan and had the opportunity to testify as an expert witness before the Department of Justice on behalf of one of her clients. Carla, however, considers her greatest accomplishment at Katz to be getting the women in the office included in the company’s annual golf outing.

Carla quickly became involved with her community joining the Indianapolis Women’s Rotary and the women’s auxiliary group of the Indianapolis Ballet Theater (IBT), the Wing. She was elected as President of the Wing and was eventually asked to join the Board of IBT where she served as Treasurer.

Carla served on the Board of Directors of The German-American Klub of Indianapolis. She connects with her roots and still volunteers at many of their events. You can find her running the pretzel booth at Oktoberfest.

Business Experience

Carla began her tax career in 1978 and earned her CPA designation in 1980. Over the years, she
has owned several successful businesses including a fine dining restaurant (Johnson County
Line), an apartment rehab company (Rehab Pros, Inc.) and a real estate investment company
(Indy Solutions, Inc.). She has operated her boutique tax practice, Carla DeWitt CPA, for over
30 years focusing on individuals and small businesses, especially real estate entrepreneurs. Carla
is a member of the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS).
